On Friday, Apple releases the 2022 model of the MacBook Air, which will become the first laptop available with the tech giant's M2 processing chip.4 hours ago
The new MacBook Air features a gorgeous 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, which has been expanded closer to the sides and up around the camera to make room for the menu bar. The result is a larger display with much thinner borders, giving users more screen real estate to view their content in brilliant detail.
The MacBook Air 2022 starts at $1,199, while the MacBook Pro 2022 is $1,299 and up. With the 14-inch MacBook Pro at $1,999, we can narrow the MacBook Air 15-inch price to somewhere between $1,399 and $1,599 and I would lean towards the lower end of that estimate.
Apple is planning on releasing a new 15-inch MacBook model, likely to be a MacBook Air with an M2 chip in mid- or late-2023, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. In a tweet on Wednesday, Kuo said that the 15-inch portable Mac would go into mass production by the middle of the first half of 2023.
The design will be completely new But, staying true to its name, the MacBook Air will still be noticeably thinner and lighter than its pro sibling. The MacBook Air will also reportedly take on the MacBook Pro's display design as well, with thinner bezels all around. And they might not be black.
Design wise, the new MacBook Air features a smaller, slimmer body that weighs a bit less, and the slimmer design is noticeable. It continues to feature the same tapered design as the previous models, and we didn't think the weight difference of a quarter of a pound stood out.
By redesigning the graphics processing units and increasing their count up to a maximum of 10 instead of eight for the M1, GPU performance is 35% faster. Overall, the new MacBook Air is 20% faster at Photoshop image editing and 38% faster at Final Cut Pro video editing, Apple said.
But the latest MacBook Air doesn't need trickery – it's slim all over. It's not surprising that that the new 13-inch MacBook Air is slimmer than the 13-inch MacBook Pro. That comes with the “Air” descriptor. To get specific, the MBP is 0.61 inches thick, making the new Air 28% thinner.
But the waters have become very muddied of late – something that's not helped by the bizarre fact that Apple's new 'lighter and thinner' Macbook Air is actually heavier than the basic Macbook.
Despite the loss of the taper, the 13-inch laptop is thinner (at its thickest point) and lighter than the outgoing version.
