On an iPhone:
Apple's new iOS 13 update, which will roll out to iPhones this fall, lets you set up Siri to automatically read your your text messages through your AirPods. That means you don't have to pull out your phone to check your messages while you're walking around a city during your morning commute.
If you don't hear Siri announcements Make sure that you're using a compatible device. Make sure that your AirPods or your compatible Beats headphones are paired to your device in Settings > Bluetooth. Go to Settings > Notifications > Announce Notifications and make sure that Announce Notifications is turned on.
And best of all, you can also respond to those same texts–all without ever having to reach for your iPhone or type in some characters. Siri does all the work transcribing for you! Check that your AirPods or Beats support this feature–must have Apple's H1 chip so first-generation AirPods with the W1 chip don't work!
Stop using Siri to read a message You can do any of the following: Say something like “Stop” or “Cancel” with AirPods (2nd generation or later). Double-tap either of your AirPods (2nd generation). Press the Force Sensor on either of your AirPods (3rd generation).
If you're using a pair of Sony wireless earbuds, such as the WF-1000XM3 or the WF-1000XM4, you can get your device to read your notifications for you on either iOS or Android.
You can also choose which notifications Siri reads:
There is a way to hear your messages read without compatible earbuds, but it's not as good. Tell Siri something like: “Hey, Siri, read my messages,” and Siri will read your new messages to you. This is available all the time, but Siri will only read messages when you give the command.
If you're receiving multiple notifications at once, you can stop Siri from announcing them all by taking out one of your earbuds or removing your headphones.
