Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for a few seconds. Once the status light flashes white, move the case next to your phone and open it. Your AirPods should now be visible on your Bluetooth devices.
Fortunately, it is possible to connect your AirPods without a case and that is via your device. If you've charged or connected your AirPods with your device earlier, connecting your AirPods when your case has died won't be a problem.
With both AirPods in the case, open the lid and wait for the status lights to flash amber. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for a few seconds. Once the status light flashes white, move the case next to your phone and open it. Your AirPods should now be visible on your Bluetooth devices.
If the amber or green light is flashing, you have a problem. A white light means it's ready to connect to your device(s). No light means it's dead and needs a recharge.
If your AirPods are connecting to your phone while in the case, this probably means the case is not closing and connecting with the AirPods properly. Firs we recommend you clean out the case and make sure there is nothing that may be interfering with the magnetic connection at the bottom or the lid.
You can still (technically) find your AirPods inside their charging case with the Find My app, but only if the app still remembers where they were the last time you used them. It's also important to mention that the Find My app is designed to find devices that aren't dead.
This is due to the fact the case applies A small voltage to the AirPods to let them know they are docked. From experience a low case battery will still shut off the AirPods but not charge them. No battery at all and the AirPods don't know whether they are in the case or not.
However, in reality, it is very simple. A lot of people don't know but it is actually possible to pair and use AirPods without a case in an iPhone or iPad. In fact, the case doesn't have Bluetooth technology and plays no role in keeping the AirPods connected.
How to Set Up AirPods With New Case
If you have the app set up and your devices connected, you'll be able to locate them quickly and efficiently every time you lose them. Even when your AirPods are dead, you'll be able to track them down using their last known location in the Find My app.
AirPods shut down and charge whenever they're in the case. So, no, they won't connect when in the case.
The Airpods turn off to charge when the case is closed. There is no way to track them in the case.
If the AirPod Case is completely dead (not even a light) Then the AirPods will not know to shut off when you put them back in the case. Therefore they will continue to stay on even inside the case. This is due to the fact the case applies A small voltage to the AirPods to let them know they are docked.
