Thanks for posting Bruce. Mine was stuck at “preparing” for quite a while. Then the watch app showed the option to install, again stuck at preparing for probably 15 minutes, then finally the apple appeared on my watch. That installation took about 30-45 minutes but finally mine is done as well.
